M1879 Colt Single Action Army holster made without the oval US on the body, modified with a new flap in the 5th type belt loop to fit the Mills Woven cartridge belts. The new flap has both holes provided for both SAA, and Scholfield revolvers. The loop was applied using 6 rivets, on close inspection, inside and out, holes from the original flap can be seen. Stamped on the upper front rim of the body, “Co. M. (upside down) 7 ?- most definitely a unit marking! Leather shows wear, with light crazing, some minor chipping mostly at the flap closure hole. This is a great example of what the Ordnance Department was doing to modify older pattern holsters to accommodate themselves for use on the newer and wider cartridge belts.
