DescriptionLinocut (c.1929). Original image size: 33.4 x 37.2cm. Printed from 3 blocks: yellow; Chinese orange and viridian. Power was fascinated by the Underground, symbol of a new machine age. Several of his works concentrate on depictions of various aspects – trains, staircases, and here the escalator. This is the exit from Charing Cross Tube Station. We know this not from Power’s notes, but rather because an impression (ed. 15/50) was given to Alan Clarke, and is annotated with this location.
