Here, an advertiser’s deliberate placement, the paper is coupled with the iconic London double-decker. But the viewpoint is deliberate in this linocut too. The viewer sees the view as if framed through the window of an adjacent double-decker, so the bottom, top and sides are occluded by the frame of the window through which the image is seen. This viewpoint turns an everyday scene into a poignant moment, the kind of point in time we all experience, but perhaps not always notice.
