DescriptionOil on canvas 1938. Bridle paths are, of course, horse riding routes. Spencer uses the path in the foreground to take the eye from left to right, and from there to the hills at the horizon. But most attention is placed on the beauty of the weeds and the grasses in the foreground. It is as if a walker has stopped to notice, to attend to the beauty of these natural forms – the uncultivated poppies, the brambles, the lushness of the grass.
