American Military Trousers Circa 1830 from a Connecticut Estate. This trousers are made of Nankeen, a cotton blend of material made in China, supplied by the China Trade, being a sturdy material, and highly desired for not only military clothing, but for the civilian trade as well. Trousers have a six button fly, made of bone, and the same buttons used around the waist to support suspenders. Pockets on either side in the front, and smaller bone buttons used to secure the flaps (one button missing). One small watch pocket above the right pocket. The waist in the back rises upward and has the typical “V” split, and strap/ buckle combo for tightening – the brass buckle is unmarked. On each leg from hem upwards are six small bone buttons., and stirrups that is worn under the shoe to keep the trouser legs from rising. All the pockets and interior lining of white cotton are intact. On the right leg only extending down from the area of the top button is another pocket and lining that runs just about to the hem (for drum sticks, bayonet, ??). The polished look of this nankeen material was originally an off-white color, now showing some age patina, but retaining an overall look. The soldier that wore these trouser was close to six feet tale by my guess. The waist is 26 inches, inseam is 31 inches. A super pair of trousers. There was no ID on the family from that original period.
