DescriptionWatercolour with pen and ink, originally for ‘This is New York’ (1960). This is the Wollman Skating Rink in Central Park, Manhattan, opened in 1949. The trees are a light, burgeoning green and in the forefront, rather as the viewer of the print, a brother and sister watch the skaters. The rink is a favourite haunt for many who live in the city, and of course a poignant memory via ‘Love Story’ (by Eric Segal, and film with Ryan O’Neal and Ali MacGraw) for those who don’t live in New York.
